For her third year of the Bachelor of Design (Fashion), Brigit Lee made the decision to specialise in Costume Design due to her strong desire to work in the film and theatre industry.
Brigit enjoys creating men’s costumes as she is highly influenced by the clean lines and strong, simplistic silhouette featured in men’s tailoring. She especially enjoys the historical research involved to create authentic costumes.
Aside from men’s tailoring, Brigit is influenced by the darker, sordid side of life; both reality and fantasy. She often uses her love of textures, especially rough and unusual, to emphasise this darker influence. Brigit has found that natural fibres create a more striking, textural costume, and is known for her use of natural fabrics.
The vast possibilities for her ‘At the Stroke of Midnight’ brief allowed Brigit’s mind to wander, and plunge deep into the darker tones reflected in a majority of her work.
