Eloise’s choice to specialise in Costume for her final year of the Bachelor of Design (Fashion) was driven by her attention to detail and her passion for couture. “Classic elegance with an edge” sums up her design aesthetic and, whether her work involves historic costume, bridal wear, or couture, this aim is consistent. Eloise strives to achieve excellence in design and workmanship, creating ageless and beautiful pieces that speak of deep thought in relation to shape, colour, texture and embellishment. She also draws from her family and Dutch heritage for inspiration, as in the case with her Herinneringen collection based on Dutch crocheted lace executed with a laser cut technique.
Drawing on the recent passing of a family member, to whom it is dedicated, Eloise’s French Revolutionary period costume, for her character the aristocrat Comtessa Héloise Joséphine dè la Fleur, demonstrates the drama associated with Rococo mourning combined with an air of dignity and grace.
In regard to her contemporary work, based on the theme, “The Stroke of Midnight”, Eloise has developed a couture garment which is inspired by the mystic powers of the moon and all its phases, colours and symbolism.
