Abby Stephens’ fascination with the extreme draws her into Costume Design. For her first brief, “What Shall I Wear to the French Revolution?”, she explored the height of French fashion during the 18th century. The depiction of her noble character, Eleonore Claudine de Bourbon was nothing short of the extravagance and frivolity of the Rococo period. Drawing inspiration from the court life of Marie Antoinette’s ladies in waiting, her dress captures the life at Versailles. Detail was of uttermost importance in bringing Abby’s character to life, along with careful research, that was undergone to maintain authenticity and ultimately to bend time and draw the viewer into her world.

For her next brief, “At The Stroke Before Midnight”, Abby Stephens explored the darkness of the dream state, looking at renowned Surrealist painter Salvador Dali, and the way in which he manipulates his landscapes and mutilates the human form. Stepping outside her usual media she sought new ways of fabricating her ideas and designs, which broke forth into the visual art realms. Abby strove to liquidate her garment, haunting the viewer.
