Anna Findlay

Anna Findlay has made the decision to specialise in knitwear because of the freedom it allows her. She feels able to fully express her ideas by creating fabrics that reflect the themes she tries to convey, adding both texture and dimension to her work. She also experiments with various ways to create 3D elements in knit and make use of distortion techniques.

Anna’s design aesthetic is influenced by her desire to manipulate the body into new and interesting forms. This element is combined with her love of the darker things in life. Her work reflects an appreciation of the outcast, the strange and the unwanted and attempts to find beauty in these things, creating sombre intellectual pieces designed to evoke an emotional response.

Anna’s final year collection for Autumn/Winter 2012 draws inspiration from the modern Cyber Goth subculture, an underground society that dresses in preparation for the post-apocalyptic world where man and machine are combined. She is especially inspired by the interesting ways bodies and appearances are manipulated to appear less human.
