Emilie Nola’s collection employs technical patterning taken from the appearance of the moving male body. She designs from photographs she takes of the form in action, frozen in time. Emilie looks specifically at the shapes created, especially by the movement of the legs, and attempts to mimic them in her work. Her garments drape on the live body as closely as possible to the way that they fall in the frozen images. She is particularly interested in the bends and bumps that are created through the use of soft fabrics to exaggerate parts such as the elbow and knees. While each outfit demonstrates a different gesture taken from the stills, her intention was also to create pieces that are interesting from all angles. |
