Oliver Church’s design is driven by deliberation, reflection and reasoning. The development of processes, to work with and within, helps him to better understand the way he designs. This self-reflexive approach is paramount to the way he works.
Oliver believes that New Zealand’s isolation, as a country, should be viewed as a distinct advantage. Separation provides an opportunity to create a unique way of approaching clothing and fashion, and thus define how New Zealanders choose to dress.
In creating a commercial, middle market, menswear collection for New Zealand, Oliver draws from New Zealand’s roots and attitudes. It is fundamental to Oliver that his direct environment informs his handwriting as a designer.
