India Moore-Bocarro

India’s upbringing of designing and sewing has grown into a passion fuelled by the skills she has learnt in digital print and knit during her years at AUT. This year’s work is inspired by her love to create by hand. She is attracted to working with new media and has been drawn to silk painting. Her bright work is influenced by artists such as Isabel Toledo and she has ventured into the history of traditional African kaftans to assist her education in regard to the vast aspects of the area she works in. This has resulted in a fabric collection as well as free-flowing, hand-painted silk garments. Her method is to allow the media to flow and dripp where it falls, keeping its integrity intact. These garments are intended to appear trendless and seasonless, and are all original one off pieces emphasising the freedom and uncontrolled nature of the collection.
