HyunJin Yun is currently making highly structured and sculptural multi-textured wool volumes by developing three dimensional weaving methods with the Shima Seiki automated knit machine. Her fabric productions are applicable to both fashion and art, from seamless garments to illuminated sculptures.

This season, HyunJin is collaborating with Product Design (Honours) student, Kate Ramsay. Together they are developing three dimensional wool patterns with suspended light solutions. They are exploring aspects of this synergy such as patterns of light and shadow, and the colours of light, with wool with other materials. Suspended wool structures play with frames and projected light.

Developing her knowledge as a buyer of fine Chinese silk, HyunJin has since studied the qualities of many different fabrics and their manufacturing methods and printing techniques. HyunJin is especially interested in developing traditional fabrics like silk and wool into new and innovative forms, with the potential to be used in modern garments, interior decorating and product design.
