Based on a concept of awkward grace, Emma Malone’s graduate collection blends her love of 1950s fashion with her somewhat obsessive fascination with flamingos. Inspired by the graceful movement of this creature’s seemingly disproportional body, Emma has played with the shapes found in classic 1950s styles to create a silhouette of uneasy elegance. Guided by the playful style lines of the ’50s era, Emma has experimented with the use of colour, print and gradient dying to convey a sense of charming excitement. The development of these design elements has resulted in the creation of a quirky flamingo persona, which is the embodiment of Emma’s Autumn/Winter 2012 collection.
