Nikita Miller’s streetwear collection is based on her Cape Coloured South African heritage. Titled “Band of Colours”, she draws influence from the music, energy and attitude of the Coon Carnival that takes place in the city streets of Cape Town. This carnival is dominated by the colourful and comical patterns worn by band members. She applies these ideas to her own work by using a base cotton cloth and over-dyeing her garments to create a tasteful palette in order to reflect the pulsating energy of her inspiration. Nikita translates the vibrancy of the festival into the shape of her trousers and jumpsuits, using a pleating technique to create a silhouette that encompasses softly draped knit pieces for her Spring/ Summer range. |
